I am so in love with the Off The Shoulder trend. The dresses and tops are so flirty, summery, chic and make me feel ultra girly. That being said, I have found it difficult to pull off the off the shoulder look for a number of reasons: I am tall, busty, hippy and curvy. I am not complaining but my lovely lady lumps tend to make off the shoulder anything look like maternity wear. Not a look I am going for, not yet anyways.
So how do you wear an off the shoulder dress, or top right? Below are 3 things to look for:
ONE: KNOW YOUR BODY TYPE
One thing I love about this trend is that anyone can pull it off. You just need to know your body type and find the dresses / tops that work best for you. For example: For someone like me (tall, busty, curvy), I look for off the shoulder dresses and tops that have a fitted component like a cinch at the waist to create definition. The Vera Moda dress has an a-line shape which flatters a curvy body type For someone that might have a more petite top, I would recommend finding a top or dress that has more volume in the ruffle to create the look of a voluptuous bust.
TWO: BE A MATERIAL GIRL KNOW WHAT STYLE YOU ARE GOING FOR
The material of the dress, or top can play a big part in how flattering it will be on you. If you want something more fitted, look for tops and that have a stretchy component to them, or look for structure where shape is defined. If you are looking for that bohemian vibe, like the summery dress above from PitUSA, look for fabrics that flow.
THREE: IF AT FIRST YOU DON’T SUCCEED, TRY, TRY AGAIN.
Let’s face it, half the fun of fashion is to play with the styles you love! So try on as many off the shoulder dresses and tops that you can. Don’t get discouraged, every day fashion is not one size fits all, so keep trying different styles on until you find the ones that make you feel the most confident. I lucked out on a few pieces this year and I am sure you will too. Happy shopping.
